The Woodward Theater is Cincinnati's oldest movie theater, dating back to its 1913 opening as a silent-film house.
Through partnerships with several local film presenters combined with in-house programming, the Woodward Theater offers a combination of independent first-run feature films and repertory titles complementing its live music and entertainment programming.
Cameo Cincy Film Collective, the duo of local filmmakers Abigail Horn and Julez Schwartz (graduates of the film programs of Xavier University and the University of Cincinnati, respectively), is the Woodward’s lead film programmer. The Woodward also partners with such local organizations as the Contemporary Arts Center, the Voice of Black Cincinnati, the Art Academy of Cincinnati and FotoFocus to screen movies that would otherwise not play in Cincinnati.
Among the film festivals who have hosted screenings at the Woodward are Cindependent Film Festival, the Over-the-Rhine International Film Festival, WinterFilm and Dan Savage’s Hump! Film Festival.
