Man With a Movie Camera (1929) directed by Dziga Vertov, is the second of four screenings in the "Reverse Shot" silent film series, presented by Cindependent as a part of the 2026 Fotofocus Biennial.
The film is accompanied by a live drum score from Will "Shaggy" Clemens and followed by a discussion led by Northern Kentucky University film professor John Alberti.
About the Series
Cindependent presents "Reverse Shot," a silent film series at the Woodward Theater that reframes the cinematic landscape of the early 20th century. This series grapples with collective memory and conventional understandings of cinema's early days. What gets lost in our understanding of where cinema has come from and how does it shape our ideas of where it is now? The aim of this project is to open thought and discourse around the ideas of linear progress in cinematic representation and social values vs an ever-present confrontation between diverse, bold voices and homogenous systems.
