The ongoing attack on unions over time has lead to wealth inequality, job insecurity, precarious job stability and the daily economic struggle that most working class people experience these days. The only way in our current society to reverse this trend is to strengthen unions. Union movements have begun again around the country but are being beaten back by the current political forces. There is a recognition within the progressive movement that there is a need to support unions. That is the only way to deal with the wealth inequality in this country - not only by providing a living wage and protecting worker’s rights, but also by providing work security.
By giving working people the power to negotiate how they are employed and how they can protect their basic rights, unions provide collective action and worker solidarity. While many institutions feel beyond individual control, workers acting together can still shape outcomes. WHO MOVES AMERICA examines how ordinary workers debate what they owe one another and how collective bargaining functions in practice.
